Browns vs. Titans: How Low Can the Score Go?

Welcome, Browns fans, to Week 7!

This Sunday, the AFC North-leading 4-2 Cleveland Browns travel to Nashville’s Nissan Stadium to take on the 1-5 Tennessee Titans.

Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM CST. If you’re in the Chicago area, head over to Burke’s Public House to catch all the action with the Chicagoland Browns Backers and Northside Dawg Pound!

A Battle of Anemic Offenses

Sunday’s matchup features two of the least productive offensive units in the entire NFL.

  • Cleveland Browns: Ranked 28th in scoring (17.7 PPG) and 29th in total offense.
  • Tennessee Titans: Ranked 30th in scoring (14.0 PPG) and dead last in total offense (236.0 YPG).

The Titans managed their first win last Sunday against Indianapolis despite gaining a meager 186 total yards and scoring just one offensive touchdown.

Tennessee erased a 13-0 deficit thanks to defense and special teams—capitalizing on three turnovers, a blocked punt touchdown, a 58-yard punt return, and four field goals.

Rookie quarterback Cam Ward finished 11 of 22 for 102 yards, 1 TD, and a 59.8 passer rating.

Elite Defense vs. Offensive Struggles

With both teams struggling to find the end zone, this game is shaping up to be an absolute defensive slog.

Cleveland’s 5th-ranked scoring defense could be the ultimate deciding factor. Since dropping their season opener 34-10 to Jacksonville, the Browns have given up under 18 points per game while winning four of their last five contests.

Through six weeks, Cleveland’s defense ranks among the league’s elite:

  • 10th in yards per play allowed
  • 8th in passing yards allowed per game
  • 4th in opponent completion percentage

That spells trouble for a Titans passing attack averaging a league-low 153.5 yards per game and just 5.6 yards per pass attempt.

Week 7 Injury Report

The Browns expect to welcome back DT Mason Graham and RB Quinshon Judkins to the starting lineup.

However, several key contributors remain questionable:

  • CB Denzel Ward (hand)
  • S Grant Delpit (concussion)
  • RB Dylan Sampson (knee)
  • LB Quincy Williams (neck)

Meanwhile, DT Mike Hall and OG Teven Jenkins have both been ruled out.

If Ward, Delpit, and Williams miss the game, Cleveland may need to adjust its defensive scheme. The Browns run man-to-man coverage a league-high 45% of the time.

However, Titans QB Cam Ward owns a league-worst 3.8 yards per pass against man defense, meaning a forced shift toward zone coverage could play right into his hands.

For Tennessee, WR Calvin Ridley and RB Tyjae Spears are listed as questionable.

Avoiding the Trap Game in Nashville

Despite their 1-5 record, the Titans remain a dangerous trap game for the division-leading Browns.

While Cam Ward has faced steep growing pains since being selected first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, the rookie possesses dual-threat capabilities that can disrupt game plans.

Overall, Ward enters Week 7 completing 61.6% of his passes for 5.6 yards per attempt, 4 touchdowns, 2 rushing TDs, and 4 interceptions (a 75.0 passer rating, 3rd-lowest among starters).

When given a clean pocket, Ward is effective—completing nearly 70% of his passes with 4 TDs and 1 INT (93.9 rating).

When pressured, his performance plummets:

  • Completion Rate: Drops to 37.8%
  • Yards Per Attempt: 3.3 YPA
  • Time to Throw: 4.3 seconds (resulting in a league-low 19.6 passer rating under pressure, 0 TDs, 3 INTs)
  • Deep Ball: 1 for 12 on passes of 20+ yards
  • Short Game: 59% of all attempts go for 9 yards or fewer

Ward’s top targets include rookie WR Carnell Tate (29 catches, 348 yards, 1 TD) and slot receiver Wan’Dale Robinson (25 catches, 2 TDs).

In the backfield, veteran RB Tony Pollard averages 4.0 yards per carry, with 2.8 of those yards coming after contact.

Special Teams and Defensive Disruptors

Tennessee’s primary strength lies in its special teams and front seven.

  • Special Teams Threat: 2025 All-Pro returner Chimere Dike leads the NFL in kickoff return yards and set up Tennessee’s lone offensive touchdown last week with a 58-yard punt return. Kicker Joey Slye is 9-of-10 on field goals with a long of 56 yards.
  • Front Seven Disruptors: Four-time Pro Bowler DT Jeffery Simmons has 4.0 sacks and 6 TFLs, tying Cleveland’s Mason Graham for the lead among NFL defensive tackles. LB Anthony Hill ranks 5th in the NFL in total tackles, matching Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger. S Amani Hooker anchors the secondary with 2 interceptions.

Beware the “Robert Saleh Effect”

Titans head coach Robert Saleh knows how to catch Cleveland off guard.

Back in Week 2 of 2022, Saleh—then head coach of the New York Jets—handed Kevin Stefanski one of the most painful losses of his tenure.

After a late Nick Chubb touchdown put the Browns up 30-17 with 1:44 remaining, a missed extra point kept it a two-score game.

What followed was complete chaos:

  • A 66-yard touchdown pass from Joe Flacco to Corey Davis with 1:22 left
  • A successfully recovered onside kick
  • A 15-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Wilson with 12 seconds remaining

The Jets scored 14 points in 72 seconds to snatch a shocking 31-30 victory.

Cleveland cannot afford another letdown against a Saleh-coached squad this Sunday.
