This guy, Clay Martin, is going to be the head Ref for the game…
Clay Martin this year:
4th in penalties against the home team (6.25 per game)
30th in penalties against the away team (4.75 per game)
28th in overall penalties
11-4-1 ATS for the away team
11-4-1 for the over
11-5 for the favorite SU
Above average in false start, offensive holding:
False Start: Houston, 17th (19); Browns, 24th (16)
Offensive Holding: Houston, 11th (20); Browns, 8th (21)
Below average in DPI, defensive holding:
DPI: Houston, 1st (14); Browns, 12th (9)
Defensive Holding: Houston, 27th (2); Browns, 5th (8)
Most importantly, the home/away and favorite splits are very favorable for the Browns. Clay Martin has the largest home/away penalty disparity in the NFL. Further, they’ve committed 2 more total “above average called” penalties this year, while we’ve committed 1 more total “below average called” penalties this year. This is also good. Means they’re more likely to get penalized for the above average rate stuff, while we’re more likely to get away with the below average rate stuff. Hell, it even looks good from a subjective view: Myles might actually draw a holding or false start, while Emerson might get away with being a little grabby. All in all, very favorable situation.
the script is in and it likes the Browns
